Satisfaction With Ins and Outs

As I enter my kitchen,  a wave of compassion washes over me. Sunlight streams through the windows above the sink, casting the countertops in a golden patina. Specks of dust float lightly through the stream of light and I slide my hand over the counters and across the hardware knobs and pulls. Walking to the drawer with the silverware, I grasp the Amerock cabinet knobs that sturdily press back on my fingers, and take a spoon from it.

I turn around and find myself confronted with the soothing hum of my refrigerator, a giant that towers above me. I open it and extract a cup of yogurt. Then, I walk to the kitchen table, and satisfy my appetite, but when I’m finished, I feel a rush of desire to continue filling my gullet.

I walk over to my cabinet, tug on the Amerock cabinet knobs and inspect what lies inside. Pasta, chips, I could make something, I think to myself, but decide against it. No, it was gluttony that made me think I wanted more. I am digesting the yogurt. I am satisfied. I feel the parquet floor underneath my socks and leave the kitchen to pursue life elsewhere.
